The house from hell

28 days after moving into a brand new house, problems started. Only after I pleaded and begged and was on television did the builder decide to find out what the problem was - this was 5 months later. The house was built on expansive soil, the fat clay is currently 98% saturation in a drought. The soil was not tested, therefore the foundation was not designed, engineered or constructed to withstand the soil environment. The builder doesn't want to fix it, just band-aid the problem. They say the steel posts, the bent steel I-beams, the buckling foundation walls, the basement floor and the splitting I-joists are simply cosmetic and do not need to be replaced and or fixed. This problem has accelerated so much, the house has risen almost five inches (yes risen) and has split posts that hold up the trusses in the attic! They have proposed to replace the basement floor though. Finally after over ten months, in writing the builder has admitted to shoddy construction and poor workmanship but state it is NOT their fault. It is the subs fault and mine! Holding a lot of the subs accountable would be hard to do because most of them are not in this country legally. This builder would sell their grandmother and then steal her back.

Pulte --- Put yoUr Life and Trust Elsewhere!

I purchased this home for $288K in Aug '06. After all the structural defects were identified, evaluated, and a proposal of work was issued by the builder -- I called in the county tax appraiser. My home was tax appraised at $221K in Jan '07. It took the builder 168 days to issue a statement of work/work proposal, state law gives them 30 days to evaluate and 30 days to submit a statment fo work/work proposal. The foundation was poured incorrectly. The upper floor/living area -- bounces when you walk on it, caused by irregular spacing of the I-joists. The stairwell was inadequately designed. The builder refused to grade the lot for adequate drainage, causing both vertical and horizontal cracking. The laundry room was installed backwards. Overall -- this structure (not a home) is a piece of JUNK. I asked if there was a problem with the foundation in June (before we closed) -- I was told everything was "Okay" -- but it wasn't "Okay" after we closed. The repairs offered by the builder --- WILL NOT RESTORE THE VALUE OF THE HOME! I can never sell the house for market value -- my "full disclosure" will be a 4 inch book, equal to War and Peace. No one will ever buy this junk.
