We hired a private builder under the recommendation of the log home supplier we purchased a kit from. It was a horrible mistake! After a year of nightmares w/him we finally fired him. He stole tens of thousands of dollars plus materials. He alienated all subcontractors from our job. His workmanship was horrific, but he lied and tried to make excuses for it. Almost nothing that he touched was done right, to the point where the building inspector failed several items. We also had to purchase additional materials to correct major construction innacurracies. He put a lien on our property when we fired him, which a judge has since found to be unwarranted. We have hired a new contractor who has corrected the problems and is competing the project. We are entering litigation with the first builder in an attempt to collect damages.
