Our job was to add a second level to our ranch style home. The project was originally quoted for a 15 week time period. We were able to move back into our house 38 weeks after start of construction. Since we were not living in the house, this caused a tremendous amount of unforeseen financial obligation. There was also the issue of the furnace not being large enough to accommodate the requirements of the new house. I am an engineer by trade and asked the contractor during initial consultation about the size of the furnace and was told that it would be sufficient. I then asked the project manager during the construction process twice concerning the furnace. Two weeks after I had expressed my opinion, they told us that we needed a new furnace and hot water system which was a cost that we had not anticipated. This shows that the contractor did not perform initial calculations based on the existing square footage of the home, the size of the current furnace and compare it to the new square footage to determine the required heating load required. During the construction, the house was not sealed properly from the environment therefore causing damage to first floor construction which required remediation. We had 4 different project managers during our project due to employee turnover. The siding that was on the original house was to be matched or replaced with equal quality material. Roberts told us that the siding was no longer available and would have to be replaced. I then sourced a vendor in the same town as the contractors showroom that supplied the existing siding and proceeded to install low quality siding at their discretion. The siding was installed by day workers that did a terrible job paying no attention to detail. During construction, I would stop in to see the progress and would discover problems on just about every visit. Now that we are back in the house, we are happy to finally be home but are still waiting, now 1 year later to have the final problem punch list to be completed. I am also noticing that the house is very drafty (not good for heat retention) and noticing signs of possible leaks on walls due to exterior sealing issues. To sum up our experience saying it was bad is an understatement.
