When I was first searching for a home, I visited 10 different builders in Shelby County. Of all the builders, Matthews Brothers offered the best quality home for the money. I have lived in a Matthews home now for 3 years. I love my home and I will refer all my friends!!!!

I can honestly say that buying a Mathews Brothers home was one of the worst decisions I've ever made. The house was filthy at the walk through and there was damage concealed throughout the house. Rubin O'Campo, their "quality assurance manager" insulted us during the walk through, treating us like we were buying a mobile home, not a $215K house. He has since lied to us on so many occasion that we can't believe a word he says. The house has nearly burned down twice, once from faulty wiring and once because of the sub-standard and defective fireplace that was installed (they have yet to resolve the fireplace issue and the manufacturer was told by either Mathews Brothers or their installer that it had been replaced). The carpet installed is the worst I've ever seen! It is literally coming apart at the seams, and no we don't have children or large pets to blame this on. After we moved in we found small pieces of carpet tucked into corners to hide holes and there are nails and pieces of plaster under the carpet throughout the house. They try to tell you that this is normal, yeah right They make appointments for warranty work and don't tell you about them so work doesn't get done and then try to act like you are the problem. When they do actually let you know about the appointment and do actually show up, they put a $300 cap on the repair and if that isn't going to cover it then it doesn't get fixed (one of the repair guy's let that detail slip). Because of all the lies and missed appointments I started documenting everything and requested that all communications be in writing. They now don't respond to warranty requests at all. At this point we've about had all we can take with them. We are looking at filing suit and having the contract looked at for holes in the arbitration clause. Tell your friends and family - DON"T BUY A MATHEWS BROTHER HOME!!!! Word of mouth is the best tool a consumer has to defend himself.

I cannot believe the ratings for this builder. There is not a person in our neighborhood that will say one good thing about them. We were insultered and bullied by this company. We were not given the ability to walk through since the house was litterly knee deep in trash. I have had to push to get anything done. They make appointments and do not call or show up ! No one would recommend Mathews Brothers. I even threatened to put a sign in my yard. They have fixed many things but not until you were absolutely at your last straw. I have spent a lot of money making my home what it should have been.

I had a great experience with Matthews Brothers and all their staff. I love my home and refer others to them constantly. They are setting a high standard in home building.

The house was filthy at the final walk through and we later found out why they didn't clean it. The dirt was hiding a lot of damage. They pushed almost all of the punchlist over to "warranty" work and now it's seems they don't want to cover anything. The last house on our street has been complete for more than two months and they have yet to pave the street. In conversations with our new neighbors we're learning that this is how they do business. Don't buy a house from Matthews Brothers...you'll regret it
