Worst nightmare of the four homes that I have had built. We had problems from the very beginning. Here are just a few. Temporary sales agent falsely told us that the lots were to be lowered to reduce steep driveways and several features in the home we were told as being either standard with our floorplan or were part of upgrading the kitchen package, which turned out to be untrue. When we had a question or concern we filled out the builders form for answers and most of these were ignored by the builder and never answered until confronted. The builder's superintendent's answer to my wife on several issues was "it is, what it is" and when I would confront him on this, he would merely state that "it's a code requirement". I work in the industrial construction field and would check out these so-called codes and everyone of these statements were wrong. Needless to say, the builder ended up correcting the problems after I would hand him a copy of the codes that he was attempting to bluff me with. This happened time and time again with the code answer and he never learned from the first time that I would check the code inreference. Another problem is that no one wanted to put any discussions and agreements in writing on problems. If it were not for constant note taking on my wife's and my part, we would not have had the backup on several major issues and thus would not have gotten the final product that we were promised. I realize the builder has to use the sub-contractors available in the area, but I also know that the builder is still responsible for the quality of the work. This home had the worst finish job of any I've ever seen and the superintendent would not correct the items until I confronted him on these issues. Walls were never sanded before painting or were not repainted at top border to cover the ceiling paint overspray. Cuts, scrapes, indentions and joints in the sheetrock were not repaired until confronted. Most of the trim molding nails were never filled or sanded before confrontation. If you can find another builder without using this one, save yourself alot of worry, frustration and headache and DO NOT USE D.R. HORTON.
