Maronda Not Necessarily Value
The builder tended to do things in a slipshod manner. Look around carefully and you will see few (if ANY) walls are straight or square and the floors slope obviously in places. This is especially apparent around doorways.
Shortly after the first rain (BEFORE we moved in) we found a wet spot on the downstairs wall. By spot, I mean that it was bigger than my 4 year old. We contacted the sales rep and he had people out to check it. They SAID it was normal and they would repair it. Nothing was ever actually done. We called them out after we moved in and found the same problem AGAIN. They came out and said it was nothing. We called them BACK out after it got worse. We were told to put a sealant on it, it was "nothing." Whether it was nothing or not, if sealant would have fixed it, they should have done that when it was first pointed out.
Our front porch concrete is poor and has cracks and the top is just shattering apart. They refuse to fix or replace the front porch. This issue is present in several other areas around the community including other homes AND the common areas (like sidewalks). The builder only accepted responsibility for a few areas. So while we have owned this home for less than 2 years, we already need to have our porch replaced, and the homeowners association (in a community that is only approaching 4 years old) has had to replace many of the sidewalks.
Our sinks continuously have problems with the pipes coming apart and spilling water everywhere. There is nothing we can do to fix it, this is a common problem with the type of fittings they chose to use.
I think the crowning issue was that we kept calling people out to check our air conditioner because it was incapable of cooling the house. After the FOURTH CALL! someone finally checked the coolant. Apparently, nobody had ever bothered to fill the air conditioner with coolant. We spent most of that summer without air conditioning, and having a child with severe asthma we had to be careful with leaving windows open. As it was, we incurred medical bills for the treatment of the asthma that summer. In addition we had huge electrical bills because the air conditioner was constantly running and TRYING to cool the house.
The facing on the drawers in the kitchen cabinets fall off. Easily and frequently. It is incredibly frustrating. Not only did I pay a good bit for this home, I need to repair and upgrade nearly everything in it. I shouldn't have to do that in a new home.
My husband and I feel that this builder wouldn't be so bad if you were on top of them constantly during the building process and upgraded EVERYTHING they put in.
