In 1973, Allen Richardson realized a long time dream when he founded his own homebuilding company - Richardson Housing Group. Allen learned the basics of homebuilding from his father Melvin, who provided financial support and expertise in the early days of the company. In its first year, Richardson Housing Group employed two people, Allen and Melvin, and built approximately 10 homes. Since then, Richardson Housing Group has grown to build approximately 150 homes a year and now employs 28 individuals.

At Richardson Housing Group, it is truly a family business as Allen's wife Ann serves as the company's vice president. Their son Mark joined the business in 1996 and serves as vice president of development. Son-in-law Jason West joined the team in 2003 as vice president of marketing.

In the past 32 years, Richardson Housing Group has built more than 2800 homes in Gwinnett County and has won many honors and awards. In 2005, the company was named a finalist for the Georgia Family Business of the Year Award. Also that year, Richardson Housing Group won a prestigious Professionalism Award from the Greater Atlanta Home Bulder's Association. The company has also been selected as Best Builder by the readers of Gwinnett Magazine in both 2003 and 2005. In 2004, Allen Richardson was selected as the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce's Small Business Person of the Year. In 1997, Allen was inducted into the Georgia Homebuilders Association's Hall of Fame and in 1994, he was awarded the coveted Lewis Cenker Award for making a life long contribution to the advancement of the home building industry in the Greater Atlanta area. Allen has also a two time recipient of the Gwinnett County "Builder of the Year" award.
