What do RateYourBuilder ratings represent?

Surveys
Our surveys have been designed by experts in market research and specialists in applying statistical techniques to customer satisfaction and market segmentation studies. The ratings displayed on the site are collected from dynamic ad hoc ratings provided by registered users as well as from periodic formal studies conducted with relevant samples of the target population.


Ratings
The ratings on our website show a number between 0-10, with 0 being the lowest rating and 10 being the highest rating. “NR” signifies that an answer was not provided for questions contributing to that rating. We exclude “NR” responses from reporting of results.


National Summary
The National Summary rating shows the average "Overall" rating of a builder.


Regional Summary
The Regional Summary rating shows the average "Overall" rating for a builder within that particular market.


Per Community
For each community, the ratings are displayed as follows:

The “Services” rating displays the response of one question for shoppers and buyers, and the average of two questions for owners.

Shopper
  • “Overall, how satisfied are you with the sales agent?”
Buyer/Owner
  • “Overall, how satisfied are you with your builder's representatives between when you signed the contract and closed on the home?”
Owner
  • “Overall, how satisfied are you with your builder's representatives after closing and during the warranty period?”

The “Home” rating shows the response of one question answered by the user.

Shopper
  • “Overall, how satisfied are you with the models and plans offered at the community?”
Buyer/Owner
  • “Overall, how satisfied are you with your home at the community?”

The “Community” rating shows the response of one question answered by the user.

Shopper
  • “Overall, how satisfied are you with overall community, excluding the individual homes and lots?”
Buyer/Owner
  • “Overall, how satisfied are you with the overall community, excluding your home and lot?”

The “Overall” rating shows the average of two questions toward the end of the rating survey.

Shopper
  • “How likely are you to recommend this builder to friends, family or associates in the next 12 months?”
  • “How likely are you to buy a new home at the community in the future?”
Buyer/Owner
  • “Taking everything into account, how satisfied are you with your builder?”
  • “How likely are you to recommend your builder to friends, family or associates in the next 12 months?”

These questions represent the key outcomes of an experience or relationship. They have been proven statistically to be the best indicators of how consumers really feel.

Please note, for ratings completed prior to 1/20/2007, all ratings of a builder were averaged into the Overall rating.
